Function

3E developed disruptive AI software (http://www.3e.eu/synaptiq-building/) that reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions in office buildings up to 40%. When deployed over large volumes of buildings, SynaptiQ will have an important impact on realizing climate change ambitions.

Our solution applies self-learning algorithms to the collected data (building monitoring data, user feedback, weather forecast data, energy market data) and automatically and continuously optimizes specific control parameters of the building.

To do so, we use Modelica low-order building models in combination with Model Predictive Control algorithms.

To grow this venture and continuously improve our product, we are looking for a Modelica building/HVAC modelling expert. Key aspects of your role will be:

  • To work in collaboration with our technical team, extending our Modelica building/HVAC library and finetuning the existing models;
  • To analyse building model performance, quantify performance improvement potential and development effort and suggest prioritization of development;
  • To improve numerical properties of models and processes with regard to automation and scaling
  • To contribute to the further general development and increase in performance of the product.

Profile

  • Building/HVAC modelling expert
  • Very good knowledge of Modelica, experience with open-source (JModelica or OpenModelica) or commercial Modelica tools
  • Good level of Python and the scientific eco-system (pandas, scipy, statsmodels, scikit-learn, …)
  • Experience with parameter estimation, state estimation and Model Predictive Control (MPC) is definitely a plus
  • Knowledge of git, linux, shell scripting, docker is a plus
  • Research background but with a very pragmatic mindset
  • Able to cope with strict timing and deadlines
  • Flexible and start-up mentality
  • Professional proficiency in English. Working proficiency in Dutch and French is a plus
